It’s all smiles for charity

Here at Monkmoor Dental Practice we are extremely proud to be part of the "Invisalign family”. As a platinum elite Invisalign provider we love improving smiles by straightening teeth with Invisalign clear aligners.

In September 2021 we welcomed a team of very determined fundraisers from Align Technology, the creators of Invisalign.

Align Technology’s worldwide charity is Operation Smile, the medical charity that provides life changing surgery to children born with cleft lip and palate conditions. The team of mixed ability cyclists took on the gruelling challenge of cycling 921 miles over 10 days from Land's End to John o' Groats. The bike ride is one of a series of events organised by Align Technology to raise £50,000 for Operation Smile by the end of 2021.

The team made daily pit stops at selected Invisalign practices en route, where they reported on their progress and took a short rest and some much-needed fuel. They set themselves a target of raising £25,000 for Operation Smile – which is a phenomenal amount of money.

Monkmoor Dental Practice were honoured to welcome the Align Technology cyclists, and we hope that the rest and snacks increased the energy levels needed to keep going with their epic journey.

Operation Smile reports that UK babies are screened prenatally, with a cleft lip or cleft palate diagnosis, before they are born. The first repair operation is done between 8-12 weeks, and the second at 8-10 months. As a result, children can live a totally normal life. In resource poor-countries however, children born with cleft lip and palate cannot access the surgery they desperately need for a healthy, happy future.

It costs as little as £150 and takes just 45 minutes to provide the life-changing surgery. Monkmoor Dental Practice were delighted to donate to this very worthy cause, undoubtedly improving the lives of many children.
